I heard my old university is "finally" (like they needed one...) getting a mascot. I heard through the staff there that it "looks like a cross between Power Rangers and a... something." That'll be added to version 2.0 of this list, I can tell you that much!
Hee hee - I was expecting our local Stanford Tree to come out as THE worst, and I see I was not disappointed. XD XD XD (It is, however an amusing thing to see when it's dancing around with the Stanford Band - which is THE worst-dressed School Band EVAR (their "uniforms" are but a riotous colorful mess of whatever each one of them has picked up at Goodwill and such.) The Tree has a few different design versions too.
The Stanford Tree: Vaguely racist? So is it a negative portrayal of Western Red Cedars? Who is responsible for this outrage? White Cedars or Deodar Cedars? Someone's gonna hang! ;D
About the other mascots, some of them are interesting ideas, just badly executed. Some of the come really close, like they have a great head but a nothing body, or vice versa. And some just need a complete do-over like that stupid snake.
Man, I can have less guilt about some of the monstrosities I've perpetuated now. Although a few of mine could probably give some of those a run for their money.

They recently bought a new costume, but it's really not much of an improvement. it's still scary.
The new one no longer squints. That's the only improvement. Here he is in all his squinty glory.
