Taiko-- Pure Border Collie!
This is a post for JC (
desertcoyote)

Remember how you were wondering if Taiko was a pure border collie? At the Border Collie Rescue shindig yesterday, I asked someone if BC's can come in a brindle color and she said, "Yes!" She pointed me to a page about border collies ( The Border Collie Museum ).
Apparently brindle is a very rare color: only "lilac" is more rare. You should take some good pics of Taiko and send them in to the museum!!
Here's the actual link about the brindle color!

The way that Taiko and Rondo played-- looking and moving identically-- convinces me that he's 100% border collie (not that being a mixed pup would make him any less marvelous, but it's cool to discover something new about a rescue pet!). Taiko's mannerisms are exactly Rondo's and Tay's!

I was really struck by how Taiko and Rondo mirrored each other's mannerisms. I really, really really want to get Taiko next to some sheep, just to see what he'd do. (Of course, with my luck, he'd go and bite them, the twerp /\_/\!)
I'll be sure to send some photos in to that museum. That first pup they show on the brindle page looks almost exactly like Taiko did as a pup, down to the facial markings. Interesting to see the papered and purebred collie at the bottom there, too.
Aw, Taiko's special...
(yeah, we knew he was "special", alright, the little monster...;P)

Taiko would be very good at -any- high-brain/high-energy activity. Sheepherding is very expensive to learn (if you can find any sheep at all!). As with one of the brindles on that page, I think Taiko would thrill to agility! He just needs something to focus on and that would tend to sublimate the agression he has.
Remember that he's still very young and maleable: Rondo used to bark at everyone and be very skittish-- almost agressive. Introducing him to new people every day helped him get over that.
