Saturday a rainstorm passed through with some lightning and steady rain in the AM. Rondo wasn't thrilled, he's not an all-weather dog like Frieda was (but a walk is a walk). And it made for some dramatic pictures.

My favorite AZ plant: the Ocotillo!

shoppingsedona

JC and I headed into Sedona while it was still wet out, stopping at "The Center for the New Age" for crystals, readings, etc. Whether you believe in this stuff or not, it's fun. I got Rondo and my auras photo'd. Very exciting (walking Rondo through a crowded shop filled with expensive, fragile crystal trinkets, not the reading...). Rondo apparently has an entity watching over him.

Sedona is made up of clusters of shopping villages. Plenty of art and stuff to look at (even buy). At one point JC noticed how ironic it was that the Real World scenery reflected in a gallery window was far superior to the dramatic landscapes being displayed (my point-and-shoot camera wasn't up to the job--JC's pics will look far better!).

After our fill of galleries and shops, we headed out to take the archetypical Sedona shot: Cathedral Rock reflected in Oak Creek.

The day was perfect for dramatic lighting but one had to be patient. Eventually the sun peeked out and JC was able to get that perfect shot .

Rondo found ways to amuse himself while we sat around...

Cocky in his cuteness, Rondo is all, " I'm handsomer than that old pile of rocks , right?"

Uh...no, buddy: this time the rocks are more spectacular ...

Rondo: Humph! .

Looking the other way I saw a dramatic sky . The beauty of this place is everywhere you turn. Amazing.

After getting that perfect shot, we rushed over to Boyer Canyon for a quick hike and another dramatic picture.

That evening we had a fantastic *meat* feast at the Cowboy Club . Despite the sappy name, the food is great and there's a lot of western art on the walls.

The "Humph" Rondo picture makes me giggle helplessly. Sedona is so beautiful! I remember it vaguely from stopping there in 1993... I really need to go back some time. I love the way the architecture of the buildings there melds into the natural world.

Such beautiful scenery!

Aww, Rondo's such a sweetie.

Arizona looks beautiful, I'd love to go out west sometime and take pictures 'till I drop.

Rondo seems to be quite the photogenic dog :D

Looks like you got one of the sun blasts that happens after the clouds break during a particularly dark rain storm. What a great time to get a picture! I don't have my photos handy of our trip to Sedona, but I want to think that we were also at that stream / creek taking photos of the rockitecture in the distance. Very photogenic place, but the same can be said for pretty much all of Sedona. Wow!

Of course my own philosophy is that any picture can be made better with a dog added to it... as you've proven!

Rondo is expressive in goofy, fun ways!

The nice thing is-- because of their draconian building laws, Sedona probably hasn't changed all that much since you were there last. Make the trip if you can find the time!

Some places are more beautiful than others-- Sedona's certainly one of those places. The only other place I was as taken by was the big rainforest up near Seattle-- truly a primevil world.

Wait'll you see the Rondo vs. Taiko pics! Tay -definitely- needs to meet Taiko (JC's border collie) someday. Watching Rondo and he play was like watching a mirror reflection.

We had to do a lot of waiting to get those shots: there were large patches of cloud that the sun had to clear. The time of day was right, tho': the sun was low in the sky and hit the rocks perfectly. Fortunately, JC has endless patience and I had a spazzy dog to pass the time.

You probably did shoot those rocks-- they're the most famous formation and location Sedona has. Amazingly, the spot is just a few hundred feet from the park's parking lot.

Ok, guilty. *g* I have a lot of pictures since Baja gave me a digital camera a while back. The problem is that I will upload a few to my gallery space (again loaned to me by Baja) then get interrupted before I'm done with the full trip set. I need to post some to my LJ, the only photos I've posted were to my other journal... no trip reports tho just self centered ramblings. I should post tho about it, that is why I must give you propz for posting since I know how much time it takes and always appreciate reading about everyone else's adventures (dog adventures are a bonus). I just need to get some other projects done first.

Aha! So just upload a single picture or two. Do the ambitious gallery stuff later...get the single pic up while the trip is still vivid. A flickr account is cheap and fast!

I should. Well the gallery is the easiest place for me to upload and I already have the webspace and the bandwidth. I mean I even have space from my ISP I've yet to use and from my old ISP (now mom's) which is what space I use for the Hyaenidae pics.
I do need to write about it while it is fresh in my mind however.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't have any excuses on the space/ability end to post the pics..it is just my laziness that stops me :P
