Dogs, cats & fires
Sep. 17th, 2006 12:40 amToday we hiked into Placerita Canyon to see if the recent fires had affected the trails we use. Fortunately, most of the fire hit the hills south of Placerita. Now I'm really curious, since this is where a former explosives company (aka, SDI, Inc./the spook site) is located. Maybe now we can hike onto the grounds...
The biggest fire in the area is still the so-called, "Day Fire," that some buffoon named because, "it started on Labor Day." The last few days of drizzly weather gave the firefighters a break-- but the winds that kicked up today worked in the fire's favor, as this picture shows:

Hike was otherwise uneventful. Dinner at the lovely IHOP and an evening of cats and LJ...
Charlie being a cute pain...Rondo and his stick!

The "so called Day Fire"
Date: 2006-09-18 07:59 pm (UTC)Of course every time I see it in the paper it is mentioned as the "so-called Day Fire" which has the same number of syllables as "Labor Day Fire", PLUS it is typically followed by something explaining that it was called that because it started on Labor Day. Great.
