A Pony For Christmas...
...is -exactly- what CF '03 was. I had looked forward to an entertaining convention with all the trappings:dealers, artists, costumers, panels. Western-themed, indeed! What I got was a ghost town. Only the tumbleweeds were missing. I spent time striving to talk with the few out-of-towners who showed up (fighting against all the other people who also wanted to talk to them!). Mostly I hung out with Il Duce (who I just spent ten days with up in Seattle) and the local crew (most of whom I see on a daily basis).
The most frustrating aspect was the ersatz chairman's lies, twisted history and excuses (apparently none of this was his fault, despite his having complete control over the con) and his inviting of several skanky media shows to mock the fandom. It was as if the loyal few who actually showed up for this convention were the only ones he had not yet screwed over. If so, "The Man Show" was a perfect solution to that!
