I learned this obliquely from Steve G.: it doesn't take a lot of heat to keep plants from freezing. The xmas lights are perfect: not hot enough to burn anything, but just hot enough to warm the leaves/plants. The frost sacks let rain and sunlight in, but also keeps the heat in at night.
