I love the pictures! Glad you didn't run into the snake (although wow, what a beautiful snake!) and I will admit to tremendous jealousy about the coyotes. I'm assuming that these are urban types who have become habituated to strange dogs moving around them (there are probably dogs that they visit locally, who knows)---I would love to meet some coyotes relaxed enough to interact in a friendly way with my dogs, and let me watch their interactions for a bit. I adore coyotes. :)
