Camden Market

Fascinating Camden Market Set!

[livejournal.com profile] fatkraken had to get back home, so I left her at the tube station. I noticed that I was right next to Camden Market. Normally, I would have little desire to tour what is know as a "fashion district", but this area had played a role in a book I'd just finished reading ("Lonely Werewolf Girl"<--best werewolf book ever!) and I needed to find a MUSE t-shirt for [livejournal.com profile] martes anyway, so I decided to walk through.

Wow. I used to think Melrose Avenue was hip/chic, but this place is -crazy-! The scattered showers didn't deter the vendors: there were shops in every nook and cranny of this area. While the majority was clothing-oriented, there were also a number of interesting stores scattered among them.

Clothing that covers the entire spectrum, weird gee-gaws, $15 didgeridoos, fast-food from all corners of the earth (the "Authentic Mexican Food" place cracked me up), all in a rather gothic setting. Half of the market is in an area that used to house horses (the origin of the market? Livestock market?), with some shops even housed in former horse stalls. There are fantastic bronze statues of horses and horse-related themes, from life-size to gigantic. This place is a feast for the eyes, with outrageous sights wherever you turned.

This place has to be seen to be believed.
