Dogs, dogs, dogs: pt.1

First, I'd like to thank everyone for the nice comments on Baron's passing. That was a rough day. As with Frieda, the end was as much a release as it was a passing: Baron was in a lot of pain and thankfully we can help them when the time comes that they need that release.

Second, I don't know whether to apologize or thank you for the comments on the pet memorial park. While seeing the stones was wrenching at times, it was also comforting to know that others share strong feelings for their pets. (And Dwight? You're welcome.)

BCR funday

Fortunately, there's nothing like forty border collies chasing a single tennis ball to re-invigorate one, emotionally! Sunday was another get-together with the border collie rescue group. Rondo won some nice toys in the raffle, including possibly the most humiliating dog toy I'd seen in a while...

This time they had *puppies*! About five black border collie pups. Why did the rescue get them? The breeder didn't want any of the all-black pups because they don't sell well (jerk). One of them got adopted !

Award for Cutest Dog (who's not Rondo!)

Another pic of the Cute Dog (who's still not Rondo)

Number One Ball Dog The dog in the red scarf was totally focused on the ball: apparently he has a bone-problem in his foot that prevents him from doing his favorite activitiy (ball). His owners let him play on special occasions, like this day, and he really enjoyed himself. He'll feel it later, but that's then...for now he's all-ball! Notice how he's the only dog not distracted by other events.

Chaser, chase-ee This pair of dogs were hilarious: one loved chasing the ball; the other loved chasing her sister chasing the ball. The one in front (also cutest dog award winner) is waiting for the ball, while her sister is ready to pounce/chase.

This was the standard position they assumed every time the ball was thrown.

Rondo found a soccerball on a rope and knocked himself silly swinging it around.

Tennis ball...much safer.

Part Two tomorrow! MORE dogs!

I'm sorry about Baron. :(

Great pictures!
I'm beginning to think my Taiko may have some BC in him, too... he has that BC build.

You have a red border collie, right? He's adorable! And he has the same ear-set as Rondo (Yoda-type tipped ears)!

Rondo craves your flesh. How can you blame him for drooling when he sees you?

[identity profile] furtech.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw your pics of Taiko: he has the most bizarre (in the cool sense) fur coloring I've ever seen. Almost looks like fire obsidian. Bring him out when you finally manage a trip back here! (And thanks for the condolences...)

You should have seen them when everyone was eating: all of them are veteran beggers-- and with all the competition they had the "cute" setting turned up to 11!

Don't worry: I still have a huge batch from the event. Be careful what you wish for...!

Is it worth the bad dog-karma I'd no doubt earn by giving it to Rondo?

Close *giggles* Red Tri Australian Sheppard :)

Too bad girls don't say the same thing!

[identity profile] spunkywulf.livejournal.com 2006-03-14 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
YES!!!! I bet it's awesome! :D

BTW... where did you get that adorable and hilarious icon you used up above... of the wolf in sheep's clothing freaking the sheep out? Is that from a cartoon/movie?
